As this class comes to a close, I am actually a bit sad. I have taken many classes through Walden, but I think that this has been the most informational and beneficial. I have been introduced to many ideas in this class as I start my journey into early childhood. I have even been able to apply some of these ideas to my current job as a second grade teacher.
One of the ideas that has stuck with my has been the introduction to many non profit organizations that work with children and families. I have realized that I can help many families through these organizations. I have even entertained the idea of working for one of these non profit organizations as I have found that teaching in Arizona is not what I thought it would be. Within these organizations I can help many more families and work closely with them to get them headed in the right direction to raise young children.
Another idea that I liked from this class is amount of different areas that encompass the early childhood area. I had always thought of early childhood as working with day care or preschools. Again, I never thought of the ideas that non profits have to offer. I am happy to know that I am entering a field of study where the opportunities are much more than I thought.
Helping young children is the main reason I went into education. Teaching never seemed like a job to me, but as an area of study to help. Sadly with the amount of testing and data that is involved in teaching, I am no longer able to help families and children as much as I would like to. This degree will provide me the opportunities to work with families as, to me, the underlying premise of early childhood is adapting the thought process that I am helping families, not only children.

Book to Boost Good Character
I like to share this book with my class at the start of each year. As I teach younger children, I find it has more of an impact. I definitely look forward to using it in the future for younger children.

Quotes that MOVE us
“It was like the most joyful experience, where I felt that everything in me was being called on to teach and also it was very rewarding. It just made me feel whole.”- Lousie Derman-Sparks
"I know why I've Been Put On Earth" and "And it's my mission that drives me"-Marian Wright Edelman
Both of these quotes are from strong pioneers and leaders in the early childhood community. I can only hope to one day create an impact on my children and the community as they have onto ours.
