As this class comes to a close, I am actually a bit sad. I have taken many classes through Walden, but I think that this has been the most informational and beneficial. I have been introduced to many ideas in this class as I start my journey into early childhood. I have even been able to apply some of these ideas to my current job as a second grade teacher.
One of the ideas that has stuck with my has been the introduction to many non profit organizations that work with children and families. I have realized that I can help many families through these organizations. I have even entertained the idea of working for one of these non profit organizations as I have found that teaching in Arizona is not what I thought it would be. Within these organizations I can help many more families and work closely with them to get them headed in the right direction to raise young children.
Another idea that I liked from this class is amount of different areas that encompass the early childhood area. I had always thought of early childhood as working with day care or preschools. Again, I never thought of the ideas that non profits have to offer. I am happy to know that I am entering a field of study where the opportunities are much more than I thought.
Helping young children is the main reason I went into education. Teaching never seemed like a job to me, but as an area of study to help. Sadly with the amount of testing and data that is involved in teaching, I am no longer able to help families and children as much as I would like to. This degree will provide me the opportunities to work with families as, to me, the underlying premise of early childhood is adapting the thought process that I am helping families, not only children.
Hi Natasha,
ReplyDeleteLike you, my ideas of where I can work are expanding. I am not ready to change my direction now because I want to work for the same organization for awhile to see where this leads me, but I am glad there are many choices. I discovered PCCEO, the organization running my Head Start, through an assignment in a Walden undergraduate class. Perhaps I will find a new place or new ideas to share with my organization through this program. I am also frustrated by the effects of testing even in the preschool arena.
I hope to see you again!

I am so glad I was able to take this course and be able to read some of your ideals and grateful to have someone out there that’s willing to give back and care about the children. Like the organizations that you can help many more families and work closely with them to get them headed in the right direction to raise young children. We need more people with your ambition to make a better future for children.
